About Checkers

Checkers — known as Draughts outside North America — is a two-player strategy game that was solved by computer in 2007 by researchers at the University of Alberta, proving that perfect play from both sides always results in a draw. Despite this, checkers at the human level remains deeply interesting because most players don't play perfectly, and recognizing and exploiting the specific mistakes people commonly make requires genuine tactical skill. The forced-capture rule adds strategic complexity that differentiates it from similar grid games: sometimes the best play involves deliberately allowing an opponent's capture to set up a devastating multi-jump response.
