About War
War is the purest card game ever designed: shuffle a deck, split it evenly, both players flip the top card simultaneously, and the higher card wins both — no decisions required, only the cards themselves determine the outcome. Despite being a zero-decision-making game, War encodes several interesting mathematical properties: game length is theoretically unbounded, the distribution of possible game lengths follows a heavy-tailed probability distribution, and the expected number of turns before the game ends is surprisingly difficult to calculate analytically. This version adds an online multiplayer mode where the shared experience of watching War's mechanical drama unfold together is the social appeal.
🎮How to Play War
- 1Play against the computer, a friend on the same screen, or online.
- 2The deck is split in half: each player flips their top card at the same time.
- 3The higher card wins both cards (Aces are high).
- 4A tie means WAR: each player puts down three cards face-down and flips a fourth — the winner takes the whole pile.
- 5Win by collecting all the cards.
